Plate Cleaning
Regular cleaning of the metal plate and sensor area ensures optimal performance and accurate water consumption readings.
Why Clean the Plate
Over time, dust, moisture, or debris can accumulate:
- On the sensor reading surface
- Around the metal disc on your water meter
- On the adhesive metal plate (if used)
This can affect:
- Detection accuracy
- Pulse recognition
- Overall device performance
When to Clean
Clean the plate and sensor when:
- Readings become less accurate
- The app shows intermittent detection
- Visible dust or debris is present
- After installation in dusty environments
- Every 6-12 months as preventive maintenance
What You'll Need
- Soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber recommended)
- Isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) or glass cleaner
- Cotton swabs (for hard-to-reach areas)
- Dry cloth for final wipe
Always disconnect the USB power before cleaning to avoid electrical hazards.
Cleaning Steps
Step 1: Power Off
- Disconnect the USB-C cable from the wasserleser
- Wait 10-15 seconds for the device to fully power down
Step 2: Remove wasserleser (If Needed)
For metal plate installations:
- Carefully detach the wasserleser from the adhesive plate
- The magnetic connection should release easily with gentle pulling
For adapter installations:
- Lift the wasserleser off the adapter
- Leave the adapter in place
Step 3: Clean the Sensor Surface
- Dampen the lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol
- Gently wipe the sensor reading surface on the bottom of the wasserleser
- Use cotton swabs for any recessed areas
- Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth
Step 4: Clean the Metal Disc Area
- Wipe the water meter's glass/plastic surface
- Gently clean around the rotating metal disc
- Ensure the disc can rotate freely
- Do not apply pressure directly on the disc
Be careful not to damage the water meter or interfere with the rotating mechanism. Only clean the external glass/plastic surface.
Step 5: Clean the Metal Plate (If Applicable)
For adhesive metal plate installations:
- Wipe the metal plate surface
- Ensure adhesive is still secure
- Remove any debris from plate edges
Step 6: Reassemble
- Reposition the wasserleser on the adapter or metal plate
- Ensure the sensor is aligned exactly over the rotating metal disc
- Reconnect the USB-C power cable
- Wait for the device to power on (LED indicator)
Step 7: Verify Operation
- Open the stromleser app
- Check that the device reconnects
- Verify readings are being captured
- Monitor for 24 hours to ensure accurate detection
Cleaning the Adapter
If using the adapter mounting method:
- Remove the wasserleser from the adapter
- Wipe the adapter with a damp cloth
- Dry thoroughly
- Ensure it's still securely seated in the meter groove
Maintenance Schedule
Regular Maintenance
- Every 6 months: Quick visual inspection and light cleaning
- Every 12 months: Thorough cleaning of all components
As-Needed Maintenance
- After any installation work near the meter
- If readings become inaccurate
- Following water meter maintenance or replacement
Troubleshooting After Cleaning
Device won't power on:
- Ensure USB-C cable is fully connected
- Try a different power adapter
- Check for moisture - allow to dry completely
No readings after cleaning:
- Verify sensor is positioned over the metal disc
- Check that the disc rotates freely
- Recalibrate if necessary (see Recalibration)
Readings still inaccurate:
- Ensure proper sensor alignment
- Check for remaining debris
- Consider recalibration or contact support
Important Notes
Don't use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or excessive water. These can damage the sensor or electronics.
The wasserleser is not waterproof. Never submerge in water or spray directly with liquids. Use damp cloths only.
