Recalibration
Recalibration may be necessary if your wasserleser's readings become inaccurate or after certain maintenance events like power loss or physical repositioning.
When to Recalibrate
Consider recalibrating your wasserleser when:
- Readings drift significantly from your physical meter
- After extended power outage or disconnection
- Following physical repositioning or reinstallation
- After cleaning the sensor or metal plate
- After performing a factory reset
- If consumption data seems consistently high or low
Before You Begin
Check These First
Before recalibrating, verify:
- Sensor positioning: Ensure the sensor is exactly over the rotating metal disc
- Physical meter reading: Have your current meter reading ready
- Power connection: Device is powered and connected to WiFi
- Cleanliness: Sensor and metal disc area are clean (see Plate Cleaning)
What You'll Need
- Current reading from your physical water meter
- Access to the stromleser app
- Stable internet connection
- 5-10 minutes of time
Recalibration Methods
Method 1: Update Initial Reading
The simplest recalibration method if readings have drifted:
- Note your current physical meter reading
- Open the stromleser app
- Select your wasserleser device
- Tap the gear icon (⚙️) → Settings
- Navigate to Initial Reading or Meter Reading
- Enter the current reading from your physical meter
- Save the changes
This synchronizes the app with your actual meter without changing pulse detection settings.
See Initial Reading for detailed instructions.
Method 2: Full Recalibration via Settings
For more significant accuracy issues:
- Open the stromleser app
- Select your wasserleser
- Go to Settings (⚙️)
- Find Calibration or Recalibrate Device
- Follow the on-screen prompts:
- Confirm current meter reading
- Verify water parameters
- Test pulse detection
- Complete the calibration process
Method 3: Factory Reset and Reconfigure
For persistent issues or after major changes:
- Perform a factory reset (see LED Indicators)
- Reconfigure the device from scratch
- Enter all parameters fresh
- Complete full initial calibration
Factory reset removes all historical data from the device. Export your data first if you want to keep it.
Recalibration Process
Step 1: Verify Sensor Position
Before starting:
- Check that the wasserleser sensor sits directly over the metal disc
- Ensure stable mounting (no wobbling)
- Verify the disc rotates freely
Step 2: Enter Current Reading
- Read your physical water meter carefully
- Note all digits, including decimals if shown
- Enter this exact value in the app
- Double-check for accuracy
Step 3: Test Detection
- Run water briefly (10-20 seconds)
- Observe if the app detects consumption
- Check that the reading increases appropriately
- Verify the increment matches actual usage
Step 4: Validation Period
Monitor for 24-48 hours:
- Compare app readings to physical meter multiple times
- Use known amounts of water (filling containers) to verify accuracy
- Adjust if readings still drift
Verifying Recalibration Success
Accuracy Test
- Note both app and physical meter readings
- Use a measured amount of water (e.g., 10 liters)
- Check that app reading increased by approximately 10 liters
- Acceptable variance: ±5% (0.5 liters for 10-liter test)
24-Hour Check
After 24 hours:
- Compare app reading to physical meter
- Readings should match within 2-3%
- If significant difference remains, recalibrate again
Troubleshooting Recalibration
Readings still inaccurate after recalibration:
- Verify sensor is positioned correctly over the rotating disc
- Check that metal disc rotates smoothly
- Ensure power connection is stable
- Clean sensor and meter surface
- Check water parameters are configured correctly
App won't save calibration:
- Ensure stable WiFi connection
- Check that device is online
- Restart app and try again
- Contact support if issue persists
Readings drift again quickly:
- May indicate sensor positioning issue
- Check for loose mounting or vibration
- Verify metal disc isn't damaged or obstructed
- Consider repositioning the wasserleser
No pulse detection after recalibration:
- Confirm sensor is directly over the metal disc
- Check that disc actually rotates when water flows
- Verify power connection
- Perform factory reset if needed
Recalibration vs. New Installation
When to recalibrate:
- Minor reading drift
- After power outage
- Sensor cleaned or slightly adjusted
When to reinstall:
- Major physical movement of device
- Water meter replacement
- Persistent accuracy issues despite recalibration
- Switching between adapter and metal plate mounting
Maintaining Calibration Accuracy
To minimize need for recalibration:
- Stable mounting: Ensure wasserleser doesn't move or vibrate
- Regular cleaning: Clean sensor area every 6-12 months
- Avoid power interruptions: Keep USB power connected
- Periodic checks: Compare to physical meter monthly
- Proper positioning: Keep sensor exactly over the metal disc
