Battery Replacement

energieleser.node with the battery compartment open, showing two AA batteries

The energieleser.node is designed to stay in energy-saving mode almost all of the time, becoming active only briefly to take a reading or send a report. On battery power the Node takes a reading every 15 minutes; the batteries then typically last more than 5 years.

No warranty on battery life

We give no warranty on battery life.

Other factors that affect battery life:

  • How many ports are active
  • Whether the stromleser.ttl or the wärmeleser is used (Ports 1 + 2 draw slightly more power during a reading than the other sensors on Ports 3 + 4)
  • Battery choice and quality

When to replace

The Node does not report its battery level to the app, so replace your batteries as a precaution in good time (see typical battery life above), or as soon as the Node stops reporting.

How to replace

Your Node supports two battery options — replace with the same type you're currently using:

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Remove the old battery/batteries.
  3. Insert either two fresh AA batteries, or a fresh long-lasting battery plus a battery dummy, matching the + and – symbols shown inside the compartment.
  4. Close the compartment.
No reconfiguration needed

Your port assignments are kept safely through a battery change — you won't need to repeat the port assignment afterwards. The counts recorded by the sensors (for gas, water and the S0 sensors) are not stored permanently, though: after a full power loss they restart from the configured starting value, so check the reading in the app afterwards.
